Gems are in the process of putting out their debut album Kill The One You Love, October 30, and their current single, Tangled Memories, is a mix of gentle guitar riffs and a bass-loaded breakdown that puts Purity Ring to shame. Tangled Memories starts with echoing guitars and light snares akin to floating on fat, sluggish afternoon clouds. Then a brawling bass kicks in around the halfway mark, dramatically changing up the mood. And this shift is what makes this track stand-out, it combines the often free-floating mood of synth music with it's more euphoric bass-driven cousin. And you can't go wrong with some extra snares thrown in. Kill The One You Love is coming out via Carpark Records which is home to Toro Y Moi so to make a undeducated guess that the rest of the album will be good isn't actually too stupid.
