How shiny and flowing is Kingwood's hair in real life?
As we pile in the car for the first show of the joint headlined Life's A Beach tour with Kingswood, we're met with a sense of excitement and anticipation. How's it going to go? Will the crowds be friendly? Is the hair of Kingswood actually that shiny and flowing? Is life actually a beach? I guess we'll find out. We make our way towards the venue until we're hit with a sudden traffic jam! Obviously everyone in Melbourne has heard about the show and is making their way down. That is the only possible explanation.
We arrive at the venue and the vibe's good. A stack of pre-sale tickets have sold so we're off to a good start. Kingswood arrive and we do the obligatory bro-down and get things underway. (turns out their hair really is that soft and fantastic) The show is killer and everyone embraces the beach spirit by getting loose as fuck. Things are off to a good start.
We wake up in sunny San Remo and the day is brilliant. Spirits are high after last night and any sign of a hangover has been wiped away with the talk of doing a dual band mission to the beach. We collect our things, load out of the venue, sneak in a coffee and head to Kilcunda beach. The day is owning in a big way and we hit the sand with a spring in our step.

The two bands, including crew take their shirts off and things get weird. Never has one beach seen so many skinny, pasty, white chumps in one spot. It's truly a sight to behold. I didn't think it was possible to be whiter than sand but 2/3 of the tour party manage to achieve this feat. Bravo. After hours tanning (read third-degree burns) and leisurely swimming we head to the venue at Tarwin Lower. We arrive to a footy club function room with a PA. Not your usual rock'n'roll venue, but this isn't your usual rock n roll tour.
The doors open at 7.30 and people start swarming in. The amount of people who arrive is really outstanding considering the town has one shop and a population of fuck-all. The show is rad, Kingswood own it and we collectively agree that Alex (KW) is quite likely Australia's best shredder. We finish up, load out and head back to Melbourne.
Alex and Ferg from Kingswood trying to calm down the crowd at Tarwin Lower after they found out Justin Bieber has quit music. A noble effort.
After sleeping in our own beds we make the quick journey down the Princes Freeway to Barwon Heads. It's another beautiful day and once again spirits and good and beers are flowing. One thing about this tour so far is the amazing hospitality all the venues have shown us. Unlikely some of the inner city venues these guys are really looking after us with amazing meals and bigger riders than we could reasonably consume.
It looks like Haydn and Adam are just waiting around bored, but what you can't see, is the 2 personal masseuses we take on tour doing what they do best…
Anyway, back to the story. The show goes off without a hitch but the crowd are a little subdued tonight. It could be that it's a Sunday or maybe we just weren't working hard enough. Anyway, we leave with the feeling that we have unfinished business in Barwon Heads. We crash out at a friend's house after the show and get some much needed rest.
We wake up and what do you know, the sun is shining again. Fuck yeah. This tour is fast becoming our favourite yet. We hit the beach and get hell burnt. There seems to be a pattern emerging here.
Adam thought we were taking a sweet holiday snap of him, but it was really so we could obtain photographic evidence that the rare 'Bronzed Middle Aged Man In Budgie Smugglers' still exists.
The venue tonight is the Torquay Hotel. A classic touring venue and a show we are vibed about. We load in and the atmosphere is loose already. Somebody vomits during Kingswood's soundscheck, which pretty much sets the tone for the night ahead. Melbourne band My Echo open proceedings and do a killer job. We're up next and have our best show of the tour so far. The crowd are really up for it and collectively loose their shit which is amazing considering it's a Monday night. It might have also been the fact Haydn spent more time in the crowd than onstage. Maybe he was confused.
In Torquay they have a bizarre ritual where someone gets on top of lots of hands and tries their best to raise the roof. Maybe it'll take off in other towns.
Kingswood do their thing with style and the night is a huge success. Can't wait to get back. We roll home after the show and prepare for New Years Eve and the next few weeks of the Life's A Beach tour. Maybe the greatest tour to ever exist.
