More King Parrot More King Parrot

Ask any fan of Naarm/Melbourne icons King Parrot and they’ll agree that the band are the very definition unhinged.

After all, they’ve been around for 15 years now, ripping the ears off listeners as they unveil albums such as Bite Your Head Off, Dead Set, and Ugly Produce, and their live shows are just as ferocious, if not more so.

Now, after years of chart placings, ARIA Award nominations and a recent string of singles, the group have released their fourth album, A Young Person's Guide To King Parrot. Their first record in eight years, it’s a massive achievement for the band, and fittingly, one which arrives as they travel the country on a national tour.

“It's been a long time coming, but we are beyond stoked to finally release our new record today,” vocalist Matt Young explains. “The response and feedback we've received so far has been beyond our expectations and getting out on the road with this new set of songs has been a total blast.”

Indeed, with shows planned for Tasmania, Victoria and New South Wales over the next month, ahead of more than 50 North American dates which see them sharing the stage with names such as Pantera, Amon Amarth, Acid Bath, Pentagram, and Weedeater, the year is clearly about to get pretty unhinged for King Parrot.

To celebrate their new record, we spoke to Young about his five personal picks for the most unhinged music videos from King Parrot’s storied career.

1. Shit On The Liver

Our late great friend Boyd Synnott going the extra mile as the parking inspector. He was so into the role, he licked the damn tyre while giving the band a parking ticket. Nobody asked him to do it, he just made the sacrifice for the sake of art. Love and miss our brother Boyd.

2. Ten Pounds Of Shit In A Five Pound Bag

Entering a bondage dungeon and exploring the wonders of a foreign world. The band were pretty nervous to be honest but the pain inflicted upon each other was worse than any mistress could provide.

Being handcuffed with my head underneath a makeshift toilet bowl while Slatts laid his bare ass on the seat was an unforgettable moment in my life. Having that bare ass mere inches from my nose was bloody hideous at best.

3. Fuck You And The Horse You Rode In On

Recreating the toilet diving scene from the iconic Trainspotting film was an absolute joy. The research and effort that went into it was over the top and the final result is something I’m proud of. Incredibly ridiculous project to undertake, however…

4. Bozo

Flying an expensive high tech drone over a sold out Cherry Rock festival in AC/DC Lane was quite a dangerous exercise. There were more than a couple of punters pegging beer cans at the craft while it hovered over the crowd while we performed. Luckily we got away with that one unscathed!

5. Piss Wreck

Creating a home made projectile vomit machine was a hell of a lot of fun. Through denial and error we got there and were able to create a perfect airborne spew scene that can be savoured for eternity!

King Parrot’s A Young Person’s Guide To King Parrot is out now, with tickets to their remaining Australian tour dates on sale now.
