With the release of her EP ’150th & Broadway, part-time Brooklyn based singer/songwriter of British origin, ESPA has developed a confidence that is refreshing.
If anything, the EP boasts an aura of intense confidence and self-assurance, something that doesn't exactly come naturally for most artists.
She's conveyed mood, atmosphere and an intense bout of emotion through her songs. There's something so sensual about the way she tackles her sound, yet at the same time, it seems to come so effortlessly for her. ESPA is an artist of great innovation and must have some degree of self-awareness to have created something so honest yet tentatively endearing and at the same time, addresses a sound that is entirely her own.
She took the time out of her busy schedule to offer us a Hometown Guide for her new found home in Brooklyn. She lets us in on places that make her creatively feel in control and those that allow her to clear her mind and make amends with her writing.
Definitely a soulful gal, here is ESPA's Hometown Guide:
“When I'm working in NYC, it’s important for me to have my little comforts around… and Brooklyn has plenty of them. I love love love this borough, and I love making music there! London is home for me, but Brooklyn is a very close second. Check out these little gems.”

1. YOGA TO THE PEOPLE, WILLIAMSBURG
Don't miss a beat with our FREE daily newsletter
“This stunning, donation based yoga studio has classes that run throughout the day. Very warm staff and an inspiring energy that gets me ready for a day of writing. Try and go after 9am, otherwise you are risking getting an elbow in the eye from the sweaty bloke doing a headstand right next to you.”

2. BROOKLYN FLEA MARKET
“If you're after quirky, vintage or homegrown designers, this weekly market has it all. Last time I bought some Questlove earrings and an antique skull candle holder. You can never predict what you're going to find!”

3. SUN IN BLOOM, PARK SLOPE
“This gluten-free, raw, vegan cafe is so good it should be illegal. Usher is a regular when he's in town... and if it's good enough for Usher, it’s good enough for you and I. My personal fave is the 'Macro Bowl' yum yum yum. Oh and don't forget a vegan choc-chip sandwich cookie. Dribble.”

4. BROOKLYN BRIDGE PARK, DUMBO
“This park has the most stunning view in the whole of NYC, in my opinion. I work out of a studio right by this park and always arrive an hour early, so there's time to chill under the bridge with a juice, look across at Manhattan and get inspired. Check the view!!!”

5. WILLIAMSBURG MUSICAL HALL, WILLIAMSBURG
“Part of the 'Bowery Presents' group, this music hall always has a great schedule. I've seen some incredible gigs here that have been etched in my memory forever. It's pretty grimey and basic, but i think that's what gives it it's charm. Check out the schedule next time you're in town. And have a 'Brooklyn Beer' (the micro brewery is across the street... get in!).”
