Georgia MooneyGeorgia: Hello Elizabeth! So lovely to be emailing you this afternoon. I hope you’re having an excellent day. Congratulations on the release of your new single! It is pure pop heaven. I am also positively delighted that you are going to be part of SUPERGROUP in Brisbane in July! You and I are going to form a band for one night only with the amazing Sam Cromack (from Ball Park Music), the dreamy Seja, and our stellar house band. It is going to be such a fun show! So, to get in the mood I thought we could get to know each other with 20 fun musical questions. Whaddya say?
Elizabeth: Hi Georgia, thank you for these questions!! I am excited for SUPERGROUP, really looking forward to it : )
What was the first album you ever bought?
E: I bought my dad TLC's FanMail for his birthday.
G: Look it was either Spice Girls’ SPICE or Backstreet Boys’ Millenium. Absolutely no regrets.
What was the first concert you ever went to?
E: Maybe The Prodigy and Silverchair when I was 11.
G: Ja Rule & Ashanti. Many regrets.
Who was your favourite artist/band when you were 13?
E: Stevie Wonder.
G: You’re making me look bad. John Mayer.
If you could sing a duet with anyone in the world, living or dead, who would you choose?
E: Stevie Nicks.
G: Rufus Wainwright.
If you could be an extra member of any band, which band would you join?
E: Fleetwood Mac when they were writing Rumours.
G: I’ve always thought being a Motown singer would be magic. Yeah, maybe The Supremes!
Who is your dream songwriting collaborator?
E: Dolly Parton.
G: SAME.
What’s your favourite lyric that you’ve ever written?
E: Probably one that always feels right is from my song called here: “I’m only able to be whatever moment you see.”
G: “You’re not a patch on Benedict Cumberbatch.”
What’s your favourite lyric that someone else has written?
E: All of the lyrics to Body’s In Trouble by Mary Margaret O’Hara.
G: Some of these questions are very hard and I only have myself to blame. I do have a particular fondness for Martha Wainwright’s lyric, “I know you’re married but I’ve got feelings too.”
Who is the artist who has had the biggest influence on your music?
E: Too many to name : P
G: Yes. So many. But I think Rufus Wainwright has provided inspiration, solace and motivation more than anyone. I’m mentioning the Wainwrights a lot…
Favourite venue you’ve ever played?
E: A really beautiful church in Austin TX.
G: De Barra’s Folk Club in Clonakilty, Ireland.
Venue you’d love to play one day?
E: A tie between the Bronze and the Bait Shop IYKYK.
G: I don’t know and I want to know, Elizabeth! Well, I suppose it’s hard to go past the concert hall at the Sydney Opera House innit.
What do you find is the hardest thing about songwriting?
E: All the time when you’re waiting for a song to come.
G: Writing lyrics that make me feel just the right amount of uncomfortable.
Is your songwriting practice regular and disciplined or spontaneous?
E: It’s only about finding the heart to brain connection, however that happens.
G: I like to go away and escape from everything to write. I am not particularly prolific but when I find the time and setting, I tend to keep a torturous schedule.
Is there a topic you would like to write a song about but haven’t found the words yet?
E: I don’t really think about things before I write about them.
G: There are a lot of things that swim around. Sometimes it’s a very long time before they make an appearance on paper. I’m currently trying to find the right words for a song for my nephew.
What is more important to you, lyrics or melody?
E: Inextricable, unfortunately.

G: Melody hits me harder than anything. I listen more carefully these days, but sometimes it can be years before I really hear lyrics. I just get lost in the notes.

G: Voicing a Disney character.
If you could write a song for any popstar, who would it be?
E: Impossible to decide.
G: Harry Styles.
