Fluent JB DJs Ether at The Zoo on Friday and Cotton Bowls Club at Ric’s Café Sunday afternoon.
Starting her professional DJing career in 1994, and since then has been a near permanent fixture on the Brisbane dance scene. She was a favourite down in Babble On, La Discotheque and The Zoo, and of late has been lying rather low. She’s brought out her old Wednesday nite club, Ether, for another round at a very special edition this Friday at the Zoo.
I haven’t been seeing your name round as much as I used to. What’s happened?
“I’m kinda lying low at the moment, and concentrating on finishing uni off. I still do the Cotton Bowls Club at Ric's on Sun, from 2pm, but I’ve given up doing the Empire Corner Bar for now.”
So why’s Ether coming back?
“The Zoo and I decided that it was time for some serious fun again, and there was a gap in the programming so it was time to do it all again. It’s the start of Uni holidays, and everyone has either had really good things or really bad things happen to them in the last few months, so regardless we thought we should do something good. A part of the proceeds on the night go towards the Working Wonders fund, which is a great cause to help provide more Children’s Health care out at the RBH.”
Will it be a one off?
“Yep. For sure. It should be huge!
How would you describe your music?
“I play anything from popular taste records thru to mod 60’s tunes, thru old skool hip hop favourites, punk records, jazz records. I like hip hop funk stuff and lotsa other stuff. It depends what the gig is really what I end up playing.”
What’s your most memorable gig to date?

“A few of the post Livid parties were really good. Going away with Powderfinger was awesome, amazing and I’d do it in a heartbeat again. They are absolutely amazing and all beautiful, even the road crew. It was great to play so many different rooms, and to have people to tour with as opposed to just packing my shit up and toddling home afterwards. We went all around Australia, and the boys are my favourite eye candy. I was sad in Brisbane when they went, but they’re back now so it’s all OK. There has been a couple of Ethers where I’ve been totally blown away too, that I helped create this vibe and atmosphere and that all these people were having so much fun.”
