“When we wrote the track, friends of mine were getting botox...and that made me think about why so many people feel so inadequate.”
“Travel – that’s the thing for us,” a well travelled Dallas Frasca admits. “February, March next year will be the fifth European tour in two years, so we’re banking it up a bit. The whole thing’s been self-funded so it can be quite tight, but we’re used to making sacrifices. It’s just the love for the music, but it’s building for us over there. We’ve got a really great fan base in France now and it’s building in the UK, so it becomes easier as you go along. We’ve got a label that distributes our records called Verycords, based in Paris, who are like our French family over there.”
You always hope for the best when you release something but obviously never really know where it might end up. As it happens, a previous single, 2012’s All My Love, had come third in the International Songwriting Competition.
“A heap of people in France heard the track and kept going to the label and saying ‘You’ve gotta listen to this band,’ and then a friend went over with a couple of our CDs in her backpack and ended up hanging out with this heavy metal band, and one of the guys in the band was with this label as well and went, ‘Oh my God!’ grabbed the record and pulled her straight down to the label and said, ‘You’ve got to listen to this.’ Then we got an email from them saying ‘People are talking about this record and we’d like to help you out.’ The French just love rock’n’roll.”
There’s a UK distribution deal imminent too, but Dallas Frasca, the three-piece fronted by the fiery hyper-redhead, remains an independent entity, and it was as such they put their forthcoming album, Love Army, up for crowdfunding. The first single, You Are Beautiful, now provides them with an excuse to tour locally over the next couple of months.

“We initially started tracking a lot of the album at the start of the year in a studio in Melbourne,” Frasca explains, “and we’d sort of finished half the record and went off to Europe again. Then halfway through the European tour, our drummer found out he was going to have his second child, so with our blessing he went home to be with his family.
“We were left with half a record and wanted continuity in terms of the sound of the drums on the album. So we went back to the drawing board and re-recorded the entire record with [drummer] Danny Leo from King Of The North.”
You Are Beautiful focuses on the issue of the media’s influence on body image.
“When we wrote the track, friends of mine were getting botox and I was listening to people who weren’t happy about the way they looked yet looked just fine to me, and that made me think about why so many people feel so inadequate.”
