‘I Have To Go Rogue Every Single Time’: Peach PRC Reflects On The Past As She Steps Into Her New Era

BIGSOUND 2019 Speaker Focus: Emily Kelly

What you need to know about your BIGSOUND speakers.

Position/Title: Co-owner/Director Of Publicity And Creative at Deathproof

How did you first become involved in the music industry and how did you end up where you are today? I interned everywhere and wrote for Beat Magazine and then landed at Shock Records where I met Bec Reato. We decided to give self-employment a crack in 2011. We gave ourselves three years to see if Deathproof was sustainable/enjoyable and thankfully it proved to be both.

What's been the biggest change in the music industry you've seen over the past 12 months? Music press is disappearing faster than ever. Music PRs are on very shaky ground and the role requires constant revision and reinvention.

What advice would you give young practitioners in your area starting out today? Be prepared to think outside the box.

What will you be primarily discussing during your appearance at the BIGSOUND conference and what are you hoping that people will be able to learn from your panel? Brand partnerships are over demonised as selling out but they can be as rewarding and valuable as any other professional relationship in the modern music industry.

Which acts are on your must-see list at BIGSOUND and why? Outright cannot be missed. Being Jane Lane, Mermaidens, LOSER and PINCH POINTS are also fantastic.

What advice do you have for BIGSOUND first-timers? Your neat and organised schedule is about to be shot to shit. Try and roll with the punches ;).

What's your favourite BIGSOUND memory? And which artist was your standout performance? West Thebarton dominated their BIGSOUND sets a couple years ago. Absolutely had everybody transfixed. They are still one of the best live bands I've seen.

When and where is your BIGSOUND panel? 4 Sep, Rethinking The Relationship Between Band And Brand, Alice Room, Cloudland, 3.30pm.
