Album Focus: Erasers

What’s the Erasers story?

We started as a recording-only project mid-2009, we were offered some live shows later that year, so we formed a live band. Since then we’ve released a handful of EPs and singles, played shows around town with a bunch of musical heroes and now after about two or so years in the making we’re finally releasing our debut LP.

What’s your sound?

Hypnotic and meditative have been words that seem to pop up a bit when people tell us what they get think about our music, I think they’re a pretty nice descriptions. We’ve been influenced by a bunch of different music, we listen to a substantial amount of early synthesizer music, some African stuff, bits of folky stuff and a decent amount of post-punk, plus a heap of other stuff. I think it’s all seeped in and had an influence of the music we’ve made.

Tell us about Stem Together.

The album is a collection of seven songs that we felt fit together as a cohesive album. We recorded it over the past two years or so, some of the songs on the record are four or five years old and some of them are relatively new. The record is being released digitally, on vinyl and cassette. Rebecca Orchard, who plays keys and sings in the band, did the artwork for the album.

Where did you record?

Like every record we’ve put out, Stem Together was recorded and mixed at home. The recording process has always been tricky for us, we tend to record things in a way that makes the mixing process a heap harder and end up trying to patch up mistakes as a result, but I feel like we learnt a lot about recording this time around that will hopefully make the next recording experience a little easier.

What’s up next for you?

We’ll be hitting the road to play a few shows over east. We have a few more shows booked for when we return, and I think after that we’ll start working on the next record.
