“There is nothing else quite like the buzz you get from performing and entertaining people,”
Bloodbath is a three-part show with a varied line-up that includes burlesque, aerial circus work and puppetry. With many of the audience members repeat patrons to the venue, the show's rewritten each year to keep it up to date. Incorporating lots of current music, the two musos on stage play everything live. The medleys they pull together from their extensive repertoire of songs are amazing.
The stage effects are completely over-the-top in the best way possible. The lights on stage are so intense it's almost overwhelming at first, but they complement the theatrics that are happening on stage.
For someone who's new to theatre restaurants the skill level of the actors is impressive to say the least. Six actors make up the crew, each as qualified as the next. For example, Lauren Skopalova, who does burlesque and aerial gymnastics for the show, was a rhythmic gymnast for 12 years before working at Dracula's. Skopalova now continues to train in a mixture of dance, circus and Pilates daily to keep up her strength levels for her performances. Skopalova says, “The production at Dracula's is very professional. We certainly have a lot of fun and I am very lucky to work with a great cast. It does get exhausting, I have to train many hours to maintain my strength and prevent injury so that I can perform aerial several times a week. However, I love training and performing and I wouldn't have it any other way.”
Even the wait staff each play a character, bringing their own individual humour and energy. While you are served your meal each actor has their own performance that you interact with. “There is nothing else quite like the buzz you get from performing and entertaining people,” Skopalova says. “I also love that keeping fit is a part of my job because after years of gymnastics training I couldn't imagine not being physically active every day. Oh and I love my Bloodbath, but you'll have to come and see that for yourself.”
