No Money Weekend
Blow off steam with our low-income adventure inspiration.. Welcome to your $0 weekend. (Image: Lotte Stekelenburg). MEMES AT THE MOVIES If watching 85+ internet LOL cat videos on a big movie screen sounds like a good idea to you, then, high five, because it sounds like a good idea to us, too.  The Northbridge Piazza have partnered up with the Cat Haven curate a bunch of the best Internet cat videos (think: Grumpy Cat, Keyboard Cat, Henri, Nyan Cat), and have thrown in a few bonus locally made videos too (AKA Vines from Perth people who have cats) The only major flaw in this festival is that if you’re a crazy cat lady / man, this will require you to leave your furry children at home for the night and step out in public to hang out with… actual humans.  - Dani Marsland Free. Sat Jan 17, 5.30pm. No bookings required. Northbridge Piazza, Corner Lake and James St, Northbridge. Bring your own picnic, get there early to get a beanbag. No pets...haha.  CHICKEN, BEER & T-SHIRTS We’re not going

New Music: Spirit Faces - Cloudplay (Feat. BUOY) (Time Pilot Remix)
Time Pilot turn up the intensity on a track from Sydney's Spirit Faces.. Perth producers Time Pilot had a really industrious 2014; edging their way into the contemporary Australian electronic music map with some promising originals, including a killer number, Vowel Play, on our Pilerats Records RAT PACK #2 Compilation, before ending the year with a big undertaking - a remix for Peking Duk & Safia's Take Me Over, that they very much nailed. Their studio work was matched only with their aptitude on the live circuit; as they tore apart the local stage at CIRCO Festival, and took on live sets at a number of WA club nights, with aplomb. Time Pilot show no signs of slowing down in 2015, in fact they've hit the ground running, putting some work into Cloudplay, a warm, low-key offering from Sydney electronic instrumentalist Spirit Faces (TEEF Recordings), that Spirit Faces shared with us as a premiere on Pilerats last last year. Time Pilot imbue the lilting track with razory atmospherics and b

How many presents contain the ability to be something that is seen every single day for the rest of a person's life, and that makes them feel better, or sets off their imagination, everytime they look at it? If you shy away from art as a present because you think it’s too expensive, or you don’t know where to find interesting, non-commercial art – let us fill you in on the awesome Outré Gallery, an independent art retailer making it easy to purchase dope, alternative art at an accessible price.  Outré Galler

Create & Explore 005 - Loston x Adam Borello
A seamless conversation between musician and photographer.. Create & Explore 005 - Loston x Adam Borello is the fifth collaboration to emerge out of Ta-Ku's creative project that brings together beatmakers and photographers in one seamless conversation. Both producer Loston and photographer Adam Borello hail from Western Australia. The clip shows initial footage Perth before it merges into more natural shots of Indonesia creating a beautiful balance between urban landscapes and natural beauty. And the almost instrumental track from Loston with it's skittering drum beats and steady percussion perfectly suits the stop-start motion footage. It's truly something to behold and if you're interested you can watch the other four collaborations HERE.  Follow Loston: FACEBOOK Follow Adam Borello: INSTAGRAM

No Money Weekend
Attention all cheapskates and cheap dates.. An important part of being an adult is learning how to manage a budget. When you learn how to do that, please let us know because we still haven't figured it out. We prefer this method: lose track of how much money you're spending on everything, end up broke by Friday afternoon, and rely on the $10 in spare change you found on the floor of your car (more life advice: don't clean your car) to get you through the weekend. When you've been making do on a tenner every weekend you learn pretty quickly how to avoid doing expensive shit, so we're here to share our learnings with you. Think of us as that token, wise older sibling that's been around forever and always knows where to go to score... free stuff.  (Image: Chloe) JUST WHAT THE DOCTOPUS ORDERED If you like seeing bands that are energetic, talented but still not afraid to take the piss out of themselves, Doctopus are for you. For a fiver tonight you can get up close and sweaty with Doctopus’

Flicks al fresco - Luna Outdoor is open for the summer. WIN a dbl pass!. Take advantage of this useful knowledge and head down there this summer – there’s bean bags (have tested, v. comfortable), tables and chairs (if you prefer to sit café style when you’re at the movies), and full access to the Luna Lounge Bar. Pick a flick, grab a pizza from Siena’s or Little Caesar’s up the road, sprinkle it with popcorn, hold tight to your plastic cup of house white while you negotiate a beanbag, and then just sit back and THRIVE. Here’s some assistance on the flick

New Music: Flower Drums - Don't Wait feat. St. South
Fremantle singer St. South teams up with Flower Drums on a lazy, hazy sad one.. I’ve exclusively listened to so much ‘future R & B’ lately that I’ve forgotten my affections for a good piece of indie synth pop. When I first heard Bad Websites, a new track Perth four-piece Flower Drums released a month ago, I remembered how great it felt to get washed up in a romantic synth-pop dreamscape, the kind that lets you fall in love with every hook, invest in emotional lyrics (There’s way too many midnight drives, and endless eyes on bad websites…”) and float back into whispery, echoey far-off vocals and ethereal synths. Lead singer Leigh’s falsetto vocals favourably reminded me of one of my all-time favourite acts, How to Dress Well, and as I kept listening to Bad Websites over and over, my mind reminisced on other acts I’d been affectionate on not too long ago, namely Kaputt-era Destroyer, and Blood Orange, and I also weirdly remembered this New York indie band I used to get way into years ago
