The winners of the 2019 Queensland Music Awards have been unveiled, with Brisbane pop singer Clea picking up two awards for her single Dreaming, while emerging artist Tia Gostelow makes history with her debut album, Thick Skin.
Clea’s ethereal hit scored the Pop Award and Song of The Year, the latter of which has earned her a plaque on Brisbane’s Valley Walk of Fame and a $20,000 promotional prize from Nova 106.9 and The Music. Meanwhile, Gostelow is the youngest artist to win Album of the Year.
Hosted by The Grates’ Patience Hodgson and comedian Mel Buttle, tonight’s awards ceremony took place at Royal International Convention Centre, Brisbane Showgrounds, with performances from Amy Shark, DZ Deathrays, Resin Dogs, Clea, Bobby Alu, Emma Beau and Tokyo Twilight.
The future of Queensland music is looking bright, with 17-year-old talent Tokyo Twilight presented the Schools Award for his DVNA collab Little Things, while prolific songwriter and Album of the Year nominee Emily Wurramara was bestowed the Indigenous Award for Lady Blue and the Blues & Roots Award for Tap Sticks, and Sunshine Coast artist Sahara Beck won the Regional Award for Here We Go Again.
