‘Full of Fire’ envelops viewers in a humdrum Scandinavian crime scene. Out of the serene cobblestone streets emerge weird confronting characters and their domestic peacefulness suddenly becomes eerie and violent.

Swedish electronic/pop duo THE KNIFE have just released a 10-minute music video, working with Berlin-based filmmaker Marit Östberg, to accompany their new single. Within this unassuming configuration, we are asked the question over and over: “When you’re full of fire, what’s the object you desire?”

The Knife’s raspy vocals and restless beats disrupt the spellbinding lull created by Östberg’s filmic imagery. At first we watch an old character dressing herself in a mirror but pretty soon we’re on a motorcycle chase and androdgenous-looking people are meandering around an all-too quiet harbour port. As the bass kicks in and a mob begins to form, this anarchistic and whimsical scene could be something out of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

According to the film’s creator, the clip focuses on the intertwining of human lives, desires and conditions.

The film ‘Full of Fire’ consists of a network of fates, fears, cravings, longings, losses, and promises. Fates that at first sight seem isolated from each other, but if we pay attention, we can see that everything essentially moves into each other.

With a cast of 16, it’s not exactly Love Actually- style story clashing. From shaky handheld footage to close-up fish eye work, it’s close to crazy. Did we mention: public urination, bondage action, muted screaming and Occupy footage? ‘Full Of Fire’ is the second track off the upcoming album Shaking the Habitual from The Knife. It will be released April 9 and runs at nearly 100 minutes long, filling two CD discs and three vinyl LPs.
