SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO are no strangers to making some of the most killer beats we’ve heard. Having been kicking it since 2005, the duo has had three albums previous to their upcoming release ‘Whorl’.
Out through label ANTI-, it will be available to the world on the 9th of September on iTunes, CD and vinyl (for the collectors out there).
Their latest offering from the forthcoming album is an ear-shredding number titled ‘Dervish’. Stuttering metallic synths are accompanied by boppy percussive hits, and these elements tie together to create a soundscape so sharp, it could cut through any atmosphere.
The video for the track itself makes a moving image of the album artwork, creating an oscillating backdrop to match the contours of the song.
Escalating in intensity and visual appeal, the video essentially heightens the sound to a technologically more appropriate level. I think more than anything however, it is the syncopation and the slight dissonance in the sound that really brings a level of uncertainty to the atmosphere, which makes it a clever track.
SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO have done some huge stuff over the years, and it’s refreshing to hear that they’re still prepared to kick forward and produce something that’s completely off the radar.
