The title of FRANKIE ROSE’s new piece of garage bliss, ‘Night Swim’ is taken quite literally in the video. At twilight she dashes to the lake for a bit of a dip. From the album Interstellar, released earlier this year, the song is in some ways indebted to those with whom she used to play: the likes of Vivian Girls, Crystal Stilts and Dum Dum Girls.
The silent introduction shows some stunning shots of the trees she has to pass to get to the lake. It’s the clip’s real atmospheric strongpoint, contributing greatly to the ethereal quality overall. Effects are startling but coalesce with all the nightswimming, imposing another layer to what at first appeared to be a simple clip directed by Laurel Parmet.
