Californian experimental rap trio clipping. have come out with a video for their track 'Back Up', featuring Antwon and Signor Benedick The Moor. In their usual fashion, they have gone above and beyond to give us something new and weird to sink our teeth into.
The visual aspect was directed by Anna Zlokovic, who brings a very disturbing visual aesthetic to complement the track, using imagery of adult bodies with babies' faces in a place that looks run down and depraved. Providing an memorable and interesting premise as Anna describes:
“Through the perspective of an unnamed filmmaker, we stumble upon an accidental and horrifying discovery. What begins as a curious exploration of an abandoned warehouse quickly devolves into the uncovering and filming of an underground, cult-like society—one where adults have baby faces and milk is the drug of choice.”

'Back Up' is a visceral track when it comes down to production. The beat is comprised of mostly feedback, computer glitches and pounding percussion. The two producers of clipping., Will and Jonathan, always manage to make beats that use few elements to their maximum potential and that leaves plenty of room for the rappers to shine.
The three main vocal performances by Daveed Diggs, Antwon and Signor are all unique and fun to listen to. Whether it's the low baritone voice of Antwon, or Signor's hyped up inflection, all three rappers bring their A game to this track, full of clever one liners and references that you'd only pick up on over repeat listens.
clipping. have a consistent record of creating extraordinary videos to pair with their music, and 'Back Up' is one of the more elaborate ones that has it's own meaning separate from the song. We here a Purple Sneakers find these videos a treat and we look forward to what clipping. has in store for the future.
