Underappreciated but much-adored electro-acoustic disco pioneer Arthur Russell is celebrated on this tribute album produced by a truly astonishing array of talent that includes Sufjan Stevens, Devendra Banhart and even Melbourne’s Oh Mercy.

Like Russell they strive to achieve a balance between modern composition and dance beats. Mesmerising contributions from Robyn, Hot Chip, Blood Orange and even Scissor Sisters make for essential listening. Though everyone’s doing their own thing, this compilation remains true to Russell’s experimental musical spirit. Proceeds go to the Red Hot Organization.
