"True Widow make natural bedfellows of their disparate influences."

'Shoegazer doom metal' may sound like a contradiction in terms, but these Texans somehow pull it off.

Through a combination of chugging Saint Vitus-style riffs (best exemplified on Back Shredder) and clear alternating male-female vocals, True Widow make natural bedfellows of their disparate influences. While there have been no significant advances since their Kemando debut five years ago, and occasionally tracks like FWTSLTM tend to drift a little too aimlessly, there's still a rare spirit that lurks behind the plaintive atmospherics and plodding stoner rhythms.
