"A shot of feel-good vibes for the soul."
Four albums into their career, this Sydney four-piece are hitting their stride like a finely tuned and tapered athlete. Underworld's ultra-slick and polished to airbrushed perfection, expertly aimed at a certain demographic and absolutely wonderful.
In fact, this album proves that, ultimately, it doesn't matter how glossily manufactured an album is; if the songs are strong and delivered with infectious exuberance, it's still a highly enjoyable listening experience and well worth your time, and hard-earned, even if your tastes generally run a little deeper. Underworld is 13 tracks of flawless pop-rock perfection with nary a flat spot or filler track to be found across its duration, and with the simultaneously majestic and swooning voice of Jenna McDougall soaring over the top.
On an album of crackers, best track contenders are the breathless and uplifting Crack My Heart and the heartfelt Last Light, which channels U2. It's great to hear Slipknot's Corey Taylor singing sweetly and melodically on My Underworld, too.
Underworld is a memorable and sumptuous feast for the ears, and a shot of feel-good vibes for the soul. Grab this the second it drops.
