Circa WavesFresh off the back of their time at Splendour in The Grass 2015 and side-shows in Perth, Sydney and Melbourne, The Wombats made it to Adelaide, and it's clear Adelaide can't get enough of them, a fact exemplified by their upgraded sell-out show as, due to overwhelming demand, The Wombats' venue was changed from the Thebarton Theatre to Adelaide Entertainment Centre.
After fellow Liverpool lads, Circa Waves, opened the night, The Wombats took to the stage with opening song, Your Body Is A Weapon, off of their latest album, Glitterbug.
During their set, frontman, Matthew Murphy, asked the crowd where in Adelaide was good to go out on a Thursday night — weighing up a night in town on their last night in Australia against a 5.30am flight to Chicago the next morning (hmm, tough one), before delving into the all too appropriate This Is Not A Party.
Playing a majority of tracks from their new album for the first time here, The Wombats nonetheless featured some of their older favourites, among them Moving To New York and Techno Fan as well as slowing things down momentarily with Little Miss Pipedream and an enthusiastic singalong from the crowd to Kill The Director. The Wombats returned with an encore that featured hit song Emoticons and the much anticipated Let's Dance To Joy Division.
With a lively set full of electro vibes, The Wombats rocked the walls of the Entertainment Centre with an energy that holds no likeness to the small and fuzzy nature of their namesake.
