Maclean has maintained the same irrepressible style of the DFA roster in general. In A Dream’s packed with swirling shoegaze-disco beats and the sense of ennui you get from watching a John Howard film. It works.
It’s not all the same: A Place Called Space almost one-ups Kavinsky in retro-electro territory; Here I Am is a ‘90s R&B pumper. Nancy Whang makes this album, though: the burgeoning “Disco Queen” tag is well deserved.
