Montreal folksters The Barr Brothers could be accused of weaving in and out of cliche on Queens Of The Breakers.
Experimental opener Defibrillation is a sonic departure from the band's folksy roots, but falls for the old trope of singing about the road. Similarly, Song That I Heard is the catchiest of the album but embodies the meta trap of writing songs about songs. You Would Have To Lose Your Mind, perhaps coincidentally, is almost psychedelic in its chorus and production.
Overall it highlights how despite taking on bold new sounds, The Barr Brothers remain wedded to their Americana origins. And that's a boon for this album.
