Two albums into his career, Burnt Letters sees the Victorian singer-songwriter trying on musical influences the way most people try on outfits – with casual indifference and no real understanding of why they’re working. The album is actually strangely addictive, the aural equivalent of watching a baby try to walk, with 12 thoroughly enjoyable tracks of smooth rhythms and triumphant chorus hooks.
