Sons of Rico ProfileSons Of Rico have well and truly hit the nail on the head with their sophomore album, Enrique Igle… ah, In Rico Glaciers. Get it? Yeah? The tongue-in-cheek title reflects the overall atmosphere of this bubbly, pop-rock behemoth. Hard hitting drums, synth and guitar make for a great combination as these happy rock tunes groove along.
One thing that strikes me right away is the Sons' use of chord structures. In their songwriting, they've employed a very powerful technique, and it has payed off well. The opening track, Against The Grain, is set up harmonically to push vocalist Alex MacRae's often androgynous voice skyward. They positively soar throughout the album, but with the modulation they're given huge amounts of extra energy and it sounds great. The same can be said for their first single of this album, I'm Not Thinking About You. I can guarantee this song will get stuck in your head. I haven't been able to get it out of mine all week.
As far as the rest of the album goes, the consensus is much the same. There are a few slower songs in the mix here and there, but they're still huge in sound, energy and elation. I am thoroughly enjoying playing this album all the time.
