"[T]horoughly riveting listening."
The driving force behind Sleep Token, a masked individual known only as ‘Vessel’, remains shrouded in secrecy, and the band's latest record is a sonic journey that cannot be easily described, it must be experienced. You won't appreciate its effect until you have let it wash over you multiple times.
It certainly gets heavy on occasion, and when it does it's thoroughly riveting listening. Just as compelling though are its soundscapes, which are completely immersive and otherworldly. Add in some Björk and Florence & The Machine-style emotive and artistic pop swoon, subtle electronica and Vessel’s mesmerising voice, and you have yourself a deeply nuanced, textured but powerful listening experience that will envelop you and stay with you for long afterwards.
This is an album that must be experienced in full, end to end, to be fully appreciated. No individual tracks that have been released prior to the album dropping will do it justice, so wait until the full album drops, put it on from track one and let it sweep you away. Then and only then will you understand the wonder that is Sundowning.
