Sam Campbell: Cambo's On Top

StarStarStarHalf Star

"There's the sense that this man is onto something compelling..."

Sam Campbell isn't on top, but he's exactly where he wants to be.

The whole premise of his show tonight is that the Sydney resident is trying to get back in the game, bringing the crowd around to his side after a series of painfully awkward silences. It's an uphill battle from the opening moments of the show, but as he gracelessly makes sustained eye contact with the women in the room, threatens to tickle audience members, and heckles other unenthusiastic participants in the crowd, there's the sense that this man is onto something compelling, as he paradoxically manages to climb near the top while staying right down there on the sandy bottom.
