Bill Napier, Rhys Darby’s park ranger character, poses as Darby’s security guard and is first up tonight. He tries out a few of his own jokes, reading them out from a piece of paper, and we’re instantly won over. The other support act, however, breaks the flow.
After interval, it’s back to Darby: Acts from his last visit earlier this year (explaining how he calls his cat inside, sound by meaningful sound; dance moves derived from activities such as “feed the chickens”) are left in but have been developed further as per Darby’s more recent brilliant brainwaves. There’s a sense he could continue all night and Darby does seem to lose track of time, but the type of laughter he induces is priceless endorphin therapy.
