Live Review: Reclink Community Cup Launch

The kick-off for the longstanding Reclink Community Cup 's inaugural Brisbane event sounds off with an amber smash at The Triffid.

Three bands get to work on this Sunday afternoon launching the annual Reclink charity match, which started in Melbourne in '93 but has since grown into a national event and pits musos against the media folk to raise funds and awareness for disadvantaged Australians.

Opening today's launch are Victorian alt-rockers Homeowner, whose lead singer belts out vocals reminiscent of the late Lemmy Kilmister. Brisbane's Eyes Ninety follow on, an outfit comprised of local rockers from The Standing 8 Counts, Chinese Burns and Eat Laser Scumbag!. A constant vomit of staunch and distinct Bris-rock, Eyes Ninety start with Canton II and squeal down lanes of punk in a purposefully unpolished set of banging tracks, including the standout from their debut self-titled vinyl output: the relentlessly driven Ants.

Closing out, The Stress Of Leisure take the stand after 6pm with their new-look rhythm section. Described justly as a criminally underrated band, they set off on last year's release Achievement, punching out Goodyear Blimp and Girl On A Lilo. Seen and heard at their best, they deliver a timely and highly rated performance.

With the charity launched, all three competitors in today's event came and conquered for the Community Cup's main event - which takes the field 25 Sep.
