Live Review: Peter Bjorn and John – Dig A Little Deeper (Mayer Hawthorne Remix)

Adding remixing to his CV, singer Mayer Hawthorne did a pretty good job on this adaptation of Peter Bjorn and John - 'Dig A Little Deeper'.

Adding remixing to his CV, soul singer Mayer Hawthorne did a pretty good job on this adaptation of Peter Bjorn and John's 'Dig A Little Deeper'. He goes for an incredibly natural sound and appears to have reworked the track using all live instruments. It really gives the illusion that the whole production has been performed live and recorded in the same room.

This is a lot smoother, jazzier and mellower than the original, Hawthorne adding a great backing vocal line reminiscent of War's 'Lowrider'. I might even go as far as saying I like the remix more than the original. The lyrics in the chorus are great, seemingly poking fun at bad music journalism 'All art has been contemporary/Dig a little deeper/Dig a little deeper'

Check out Chromeo's contribution of their funky 80s disco sound to a recent remix of Mayer Hawthorne's 'A Long Time'. Complete with vocoder vocals and a punchy 16 beat drum pattern, it's a huge tune.
