Album Review: Nicolas Jaar - Sirens

StarStarStarStar

"...nothing short of laconic poetry that takes critical aim at politics and power."

More Nicolas Jaar Nicolas Jaar

Since initial success in 2011, Nicolas Jaar has eluded the spotlight created by his fans assuming a more low key approach.

Sirens however comes on loud and strong. A dense album of hypnotic soundscapes that shift to dance beats, Jaar projects a dark and heavier presence than usual. The album cover contemplates his country's relationship with the States and Jaar's lyrics are nothing short of laconic poetry that takes critical aim at politics and power. Much of this album feels brutal, Three Sides Of Nazareth delves into violent electro punk, but Jaar masterfully works his usual palette of sound into spellbinding compositions.
