Live Review: LISTEN: The XX 'Fiction' (Maya Jane Coles Remix)

Maya Jane Coles remixes The XX's ambient slow groove, 'Fiction'.

THE XX are known for their ambient sounds, dark moods and experimentation. So when an artist alters their music through their own remixed interpretation, really cool and creative sounds become prevalent, such as in MAYA JANE COLES' remix of 'Fiction'.

The house producer has thickened the body of the track through the addition of extra synths and beats. Although this is quite a chilled out and mellow response to the original track, the bouncing beat has quickened, giving it a slightly different sound to what The XX initially delivered. It wails sirens, blocked patterns and a rhythm that casts a dancey shadow on this very spaced out track. Definitely more of a slow jive though..

Maya Jane Coles' rendition of 'Fiction' is a perfect example of the soft, smooth music that the British producer creates. Her debut album Comfort will be released via her own label I/AM/ME on 1st July.

As for The XX, they're just about to grace the stage of London's Night+Day festival, where they'll be joining a lineup consisting of acts such as Mount KimbiePolicaSolangeJon Hopkins and more!
