Australia's west and east coast musically meet as Melbourne producer CHIEFS' drops his own edit of Perth's golden boy, TA-KU. 'Descent', which features as a bonus track on TA-KU's Songs To Break Up To album, is a melancholic and RnB- rich affair, with crackly undertones and smooth as honey vocal lines phrased out by Ebrahim.
In this 'Descent (Chiefs Reggie Crazy Edit)', CHIEFS turns down the lyric-heavy aspect of the track and replaces it with audio from the show True Detective, turning 'What're you talking about, Reggie?' and 'Look , man. Reggie's crazy, like for real.' into his edit's main vocal samples.
With a subtle twist on its original, CHIEFS manages to turn this ode-to-love track into a lounge style electro-snippet, shifting the focus to the underlying production. Whilst TA-KU's original tugs at the heart and taunts you into giving up to emotional despair, this edit eases up on 'the feels' and allows listeners the chance for a short burst of dance-action.
