Live Review: Sable Releases ‘Kanto’ EP + Announces National Tour

Perth's SABLE has been extremely productive this past year. He's just released a two track EP titled 'Kanto', and to celebrate, has announced a tour too.

John Dewhurst has had quite the year. I think we’ve said it before, but it definitely needs to be reiterated. SABLE has absolutely killed it in 2014. Going from strength to strength, he’s certainly been productive as well.

Collaborating with KELE, releasing his debut EP and touring endlessly around the country including Circo Festival and Splendour In The Grass, it’s been chockers for the producer. His latest offering comes in the form of a two track EP. Going by the name of Kanto (10 points if you get the Pokemon reference which seem to be recurring), the EP features ‘Thunderwave’ and ‘Surf’. Put that in your Pokeball.

‘Surf’ is strong from the go-get. Opening with a thick beat, heavy bass and an already established percussive drive, SABLE has proved once again that he’s no stranger to making massive sounds. There’s somewhat of a childlike element to the samples used. Light in their touch and high pitched in most instances, it’s refreshing to hear something so innocent, yet at the same time, could only be achieved through so much experience.

‘Thunderwave’ is more of a bouncy track, utilising a higher octave synth. Sounds that remind me of stars dot the track and there’s a real ‘Rainbow Road’ feel to the effect of this song.

‘Kanto’ is a really cool progressive look at the way in which SABLE has progressed as a producer. Bigger, badder and brighter, he’s created something special yet again. To celebrate the EP, he’s also about to embark on the Pokemon master’s journey around Australia. Beginning in Perth and ending on the Sunshine Coast in sunny Queensland, be sure to check out these tour dates.
