Dr. Dog have a brand new album, Be the Void. As we’ve come to expect, the album is full of upbeat tunes juxtaposed to brooding and sad lyrics. The opening track, ‘Lonesome,’ is just that- an excellent forebearer of things to come.
Twanging, almost-bluegrass guitars lovingly plucked, a thumping drum beat and the swooning low vocals of Scott McKinnen kick off a lovely little album- it’s got all the best parts of the band’s LP sound, as well as that little bit of extra depth that comes with having grown and developed as musicians over the past two years.
We can still pine with them about their loneliness, we can still try and harmonise just like they do, we can still love love love Dr. Dog, and that’s just how we like it.
