Melbourne electro-pop star Kira Puru has released her self-titled EP, and it's third single 'Fly' is a sassy dance-rock number perfect for the dancefloor.
Off the back of two massive singles and on the eve of a sold-out headlining tour and equally bonkers festival dates, the self-titled EP of Melbourne wonder KIRA PURU is finally upon us. To celebrate she's unveiled its third single, 'Fly' - and it's a groovalicious dancefloor number with more crisp basslines and innuendo than we know what to do with.
Kira Puru is one of those talents that needs no introduction, but since that's sort of my job and all, I'll have to do it anyway. She's been crafting killer electro-pop since her 2015 debut 'All Dulled Out', but it wasn't until her 2017 hit 'Tension' that she became a nationally recognised name. With a defiant dance-rock attitude, 'Tension' has scored over a million streams alone. Dropping in 2018, 'Molotov' was a worthy sequel, with Kira's infectious confidence oozing through every hook and beat. The success of these singles earned her two sold out headline shows, as well as spots at Curve Ball, Groovin the Moo, and even a chance to cover Katy Perry on Triple J's Like a Version. 'Fly' is one of five tracks on Kira Puru's self-titled EP, which was produced by Jon Hume (Sofi Tukker, E^ST) and promises to be "honest, fun and weird in all the right places."
'Fly' is an amalgamation of everything Kira Puru has mastered over the past year. Driven by a crisp bassline and pounding percussion, Kira's hook-filled vocals dominate the mix with sassy confidence. She maintains that 'Fly' is "a serious work about the art of aviation" and that "any innuendo or double entendre is pure accident." Yet with lines like "take your seat / row sixty-nine", something tells me that 'Fly' might be about something other than the magical invention of the Wright brothers.
