Live Review: Karriem Riggins remixes Gabriel Garzon-Montano's 'Crawl'

Jazz drummer and hip hop producer Karriem Riggins has remixed the track 'Crawl' by fellow Stones Throw Records artist, Gabriel Garzon-Montano and by doing so, has created a whole new sound.

Karriem Riggins has had his fair share of experience as a producer, working with the likes of Kanye West and others, providing his own jazzy take on production. In Karriem Riggins' version of 'Crawl', we get a mix of new electronic synths laid gently atop of the new, staggering drum beat that has all these wonderful drum fills that give the beat an other worldly feel to it.

The remix takes Gabriel Garzon-Montano's original track and makes it bounce more to an uneasy rhythm, making the vocals flow over a funky beat full of little twists and turns. Karriem Riggins really did something extra with this beat.

When asked about how the remix came together, Gabriel Garzon-Montano provided us with this insight on why this remix sounds the way it does.

“When I asked him how he made the beat he told me it's him playing straight through,” says Gabriel. “Makes sense when you hear the fills. I've been a fan for a long time and it's a beautiful thing to have him bless my vocals.”

Karriem Riggins is a phenomenal talent and this remix was the perfect stage for him to flex his skills as a drummer and a producer. He really did Gabriel Garzon-Montano justice with this remix and we look forward to more.
