Live Review: George Michelle unleashes dance bop, ‘ffrreeaakk’

George Michelle has unleashed an ominous new tech house single, ‘ffrreeaakk’. It's a groovy track with the intention to make people dance.

Having recently got as high as #3 on the ARIA charts for his mega remix of PNAU's 'Changa' and off the back of his latest single ‘Keep Me Waiting’ with US duo Separate WaysGeorge Michelle has unleashed an ominous new tech-house single, ‘ffrreeaakk’. It's a groovy track with the intention to make people move. It's also accompanied by an interesting lyric video, one that evokes an uncomfortable yet satisfying sense of pleasure.

A whimsy vocal drives the track forward. It's hauntingly mixed into the beat, giving an ominous anthem quality to the driving dance beat. A groove led track, a simple drum line builds heavier accompanying a romping bass line. Put that with rave dance synths and we've got a fully fledged banger. It's a cultivation of all the things you'd want to hear on the dimly lit dance floor past midnight, an unapologetic in your face heater.

The track's an attempt to call out freaks and outliers. George Michelle takes you to his own version of a Blade Rave.

"I wanted to make a song that was like a contemporary version of Crystal Method's 'Blood Rave' from the start of Blade - but for freaks and outliers - not vampires,” Michelle.

‘ffrreeaakk’ is a welcome change in tone for George Michelle. It shows an intense yet satisfying mode to his already inescapably unique sound. It's a freaky new single, and allows George Michelle to climb up our 'one's to watch' list.
