Well, we can easily go out on a limb and say this has to be one of the most creative and interesting musical creations to come out in the last twelve months. And it comes courtesy of two Australian guys known as BLEEDING COLOURS.
Oh, but this isn’t any kind of regular release. It’s a cover, but a cover that doesn’t really cover the original track. Rather, it pulls it apart and puts it back together in a completely different form. What the hell are we taking about? We’re talking about a cover of ‘Angels’ by The XX. A cover that will make you re-think your opinion on this song, regardless of whether you love it or hate it.
Bleeding Colours is a collaboration between homegrown producer Lewis May and young hip hop artist Ziggy. This cover is their first release, but they’ve gone and named it 'Blurs', which is a pretty obvious choice, as it represents the style they create. ‘Angels’ has been chopped up and chilled out to become a sample driven remix and with Ziggy's signature hip hop style and May's on-point sampling and production on board – the song suddenly takes a whole new and even more melancholic direction.
The track was mixed and mastered by Swedish engineer and producer Markus Dextegen of Rocket Boy and Australian producer/engineer Hykus and really “blurs” the lines between what is a cover/remix and what is the original.
It’s an exceptional debut release, regardless of what form you believe it actually takes and if this is just a taste of what to expect in the future - we feel this is going to be an act you should be looking out for in 2013.
We also have it on good authority that Bleeding Colours are due to drop an EP next month and have Australian and international touring in their sights. So keep your eyes peeled.
