Live Review: BLACKSTARKIDS release a breezy new single 'FRANKIE MUNIZ'

Kansas trio BLACKSTARKIDS have released a blissful new single 'FRANKIE MUNIZ' that effortlessly blends soft and gentle atmospheric sounds with soulful vocals. Fresh off the block and already gathering praise, these rising stars are sharing music that is truly unique with their stunning, self-exploring, coming-of-age sound. Breaking boundaries one release at a time, this band is definitely one to watch.

Blending a mix of genres including garage rock, synthpunk, and hip-hop, this new group has been creative with their individualised sound that feels nostalgic and introspective. Incorporating an indie-rock feel, this new single is glimmering with emotion and depth, layering breezy vocals atop riffing guitars and smooth rap verses. Reflecting on love and heartbreak, 'FRANKIE MUNIZ' explores the complexities of youth culture and what it means to be young and confused which is synonymous with the band's ethos.

Talking to Pilerats about their style BLACKSTARKIDS said, "The vibe of the music I’d describe as coming of age. It sounds like figuring out who you are as a person, but having fun while doing it. I think a lot of our music touches on day to day personal issues, but it sounds like us making the best of it because we use music to escape our problems."

Influenced by artists including Outkast, Smashing Pumpkins, Odd Future, and Weezer, this group is steadily gaining hype with comparisons to BROCKHAMPTON and Bloc Party through their distinctive sound. With all eyes anticipating their next move, this alternative outfit are already climbing to new heights having been signed to record label Dirty Hit, rubbing shoulders with music legends such as The 1975. BLACKSTARKIDS have also prompted international praise from press and fans alike.

The single comes with an accompanying music video that highlights music as ultimately a form of escapism. This track is mesmeric in its production, blending sonic elements that echo the mood of the song. Mixing different sounds, topics, and ideas in this video, BLACKSTARKIDS are always trying to connect with listeners on a deeper level, creating music that explores youth and its many highs and lows.
