I’m a bit of a pop music fan. I like 3 minute songs full of hooks and catchy choruses. However, I also love BECK with the passion of a thousand suns, so you can imagine my mixed feelings when I found this 20 minute remix he’s done of PHILIP GLASS’s ‘NYC 73-78’.
The track is of the compilation album Philip Glass: Remixed, which also features tracks by Amon Tobin and Pantha Du Prince. Beck’s contribution is, in a word, incredible. It’s challenging sure, but I defy anyone not to be sucked in by the stuttering beats and gentle ebb and flow of sounds that are almost complete synthetic but draw out so many human emotions. Having a bit of a boring day? Chuck this track on to make your most mundane tasks seem dramatic and inspired.
