Even more so than most albums in the left-field electronic space, Lapalux's Ruinism feels like a statement that needs to be absorbed in full to be truly appreciated.
The inspiration of his previous LP Lustmore — the feeling of weightlessness between sleep and waking — is once again addressed and expanded on in Lapalux's latest effort, an album perforated by long stretches of Blade Runner synths and punctuated by crunching, broken knots of disintegrated rhythms. Taken out of context, such components can feel boring or unlistenable. In context and in sequence? They craft quite a remarkable listening experience that fully captures the same weightless sensation of the record's key inspiration. A sterling step up from a talented producer.
