"Kurt Vile strips it all back for this album which feels relatively low key in comparison to its predecessor."
After the success of the rather grand and dreamy Wakin On A Pretty Daze, Kurt Vile strips it all back for this album which feels relatively low-key in comparison to its predecessor.
The tunes when pulled apart revolve around layers of loops. They spread easy, almost weightless vibes that aimlessly drift. Vile works the laconic slacker, stoner rocker persona. He deals fractured introspective stream-of-consciousness lyricism that expresses a certain ennui. Detached, discontent and at times giving way to melancholy despair, Vile's presence adds weight to hold down the dreamy instrumental textures. A low-key release that grows with repeat listening.
