"When looking at songs individually, there are standouts."
Notorious for their take on Taylor Swift's Blank Space, it's with some expectation that Detroit post-hardcore six-piece I Prevail make good on more than a neat cover from a solid debut EP in 2014.
And they do on Lifelines - mostly. When looking at songs individually, there are standouts. Come & Get It has a real killer stomping beat that just seeps in, and Rise's angular, buzzing guitars are bliss, but as a whole it's a bit of a machine that's too well oiled. It relies on the same pace, dual vocal structures and effects throughout, ultimately making the album all blur into one.
