DMA'SFor Now is the second album from Sydney rock trio DMA'S, who have been a band to watch ever since they released their debut EP, which seemed to gain them instant success in 2014.
The new release kicks off strong with its title track, the driving, energetic rock song immediately setting the tone of the album. DMA'S are often compared to bands like Oasis and The Stone Roses, and tracks like Dawning, Lazy Love and Time & Money do have that classic Britpop/rock sound. However the band - consisting of Tommy O'Dell, Johnny Took and Matt Mason - provide moments of contrast in this album, like the bright synths and disco beat of the otherwise angsty The End.
With three songwriters in the band, each track benefits from strong lyrics and melodies that are given warmth with lush vocals. Tape Deck Sick is one of the strongest songs on the album - simple but highly effective in the same way Delete was four years ago - light and catchy, but carrying deeper meaning.
For Now is perhaps slightly more polished and produced than previous releases, but the group haven't departed too far from the DMA'S sound they've established over the last few years.
