Album Review: David Brent & Foregone Conclusion - Life On The Road

"Likely the exact thing Gervais set out to make."

Mileage on a comedy album is often pretty low, and as far as collections of film tie-in folk-pop punchlines go, Life On The Road is a long enough trip.

Ricky Gervais sings as well as moneyed producing will allow, and the writing is sound in a vaguely insensitive way, but it never quite matches the obliquely disconcerting reality of In Glendale or the pseudo-satirical zealotry of Popstar — both peaks at either end of the tone shown here. This is a pretty reasonable facsimile of a bargain bin classic, though, and likely the exact thing Gervais set out to make.
