American stand-up comedian Chris D'Elia is travelling across Australia on his debut comedic tour of the country - and he's selling out fast.

During his sold-out performance at Adelaide's Arkaba Hotel Friday night, D'Elia seems to have gotten a bit softer, or dare we say... nicer, these days? Whatever it is, it's working and Australia can't get enough of him.

The jaded-cool-guy seems less repressed and less offended by the insensitivity of others in his new stand-up, with a noticeable lack of savageness compared to his earlier work.

In fact, fans could be forgiven for thinking "douche" at least once in his prior specials - if for no other reason than D'Elia himself often suggesting that he's a bit of a wanker. But, this time around he's more reachable as a performer and it's an improvement.

But, he's not all different. His mannerisms and movements are distinctly himself, gainfully swinging about the stage and manoeuvring his neck in a manner of R-E-S-P-E-C-T (uh-uh-das-right-gurl), complete with eyebrow manipulation that might arouse a migraine. He has a thing going on that is original and naturally informed by his environment.

Free from obvious contrivance, D'Elia's particular style is skillfully unrehearsed and unrigid. Rather, his act resembles a long-winded conversation, in which his own ludicrous inferences change the direction or outcome of the punchline.

While D'Elia sometimes seems surprised at where his thoughts take him (and the audience), his delivery is remarkably logical and ultimately well thought out. While he appears to shoot from the hip and allow room for deviation, D'Elia keeps his set cohesive and on topic by following a central concept.

Overall, Chris D'Elia is engaging, hilarious, surprisingly warm-hearted and funny AF.
