Album Review: Calvin Love - Super Future

To really “get” Calvin Love, you need to watch the film clip for Cool.

It doesn’t appear on this album but gives you a sense of the person behind this collection of ten mildly fantastic, super lo-fi tracks. An Edmonton native, the tall, skinny guy masquerades as a one-man band but tours with a band and kind of sounds like that too, relying on synth effects, drum samples and live instrumentation (along with an amiable squawk) that eventually endears although it takes a while to get there. Persevere and you’ll be rewarded.
