Album Review: Brian Eno - The Ship

StarStarHalf Star

"Eno's high concepts and noble intentions lead him down into an unprofitable abyss of woozy drones and impenetrable free verse..."

More Brian Eno Brian Eno

As Brian Eno explains it The Ship is based on "experiments with three-dimensional recording techniques", and is "as much musical novel as traditional album" exploring humankind's hubris and paranoia with Markov chain-generated poetry.

For once Eno's high concepts and noble intentions lead him down into an unprofitable abyss of woozy drones and impenetrable free verse that might have been delivered by a recovering ketamine addict. The Ship may only be a partial success at best, but at least Eno keeps his failures interesting.
