The first of two new exhibitions launching this month at the NGV is that of LA-based artist and filmmaker Alex Prager, whose influences, such as Hitchcock and artists like Cindy Sherman are easily identifiable, but despite this Prager’s own style shines through. The cinematic quality of her images is enhanced by a vibrant colour palette, highly stylised sets and vintage costuming. Mystery surrounds the characters in Prager’s work, but we see signs of distress and anxiety in many of the female protagonists depicted in her films and images.
NGV to 19 Apr.
