12 January 2022 | 2:08 pm | Staff Writer

It’s all happening over at The Zoo!

Brisbane venue The Zoo is upping its live music game, revealing construction on a dedicated band space/green room has commenced.

It’s been a big couple of months for the Queensland favourite, with the announcement of its air-con installation last month followed by the launch of a pizzeria this week.

With its kitchen renovations complete, The Zoo’s Zoopreme Pizzeria will open this Saturday night, January 15, with “piping hot pies” served up by Italian chef Luigi De Santo, launched via Pizza Party gig from 6:30pm featuring Totally Unicorn, Being Jane Lane and Cooper Reilly (Bad Neighbour). Entry is free!

"We're stoked to be up and running and can't wait to feed the masses till the wee hours,” The Zoo co-owner Luke 'Boo' Johnston said.

“If you're in the Valley and fancy a hot pie at 2am to soak up your sins, The Zoo is your spot."

De Santo added: "If my mother finds out I make pizza with pineapple I won't be allowed to come home to Napoli but I'm am very happy to join The Zoo family.

“I am very passionate about making pizza and I'm very excited to create delicious pizzas for Zoopreme Pizzeria."

Punters can expect “authentic Italian classics with contemporary flair and a nod to the local live music scene” and “a few secret 'off-menu' items that draw on the original Zoo kitchen menu of the ‘90s”.

Zoopreme Pizzeria opening hours will coincide with venue events; non-ticket holders will be able to dine in from 11:30pm - 2:30 am. Non-event times, takeaway and delivery options will be available soon - keep an eye on The Zoo’s socials!

In the meantime, here's a teaser of the bandroom as construction gets underway:
